Norfolk-Southern Railroad Crossing Closures:
Due to railroad track maintenance, Norfolk-Southern Railroad will be closing railroad crossings in the Charlotte Metro Region beginning the week of February 7th. Each closing is expected to be six to eight hours. Detours will be signed and Norfolk-Southern will send notices to the media. Tentatively, Norfolk-Southern Railroad will close the following crossings:
- February 7-9: Hebron Street, Sweden Road
- February 9-11: Arrowood Road, Archdale Road
- February 14-16: Old Pineville Road, Minuet Lane
- February 16-18: Rountree Road, Seymour Drive, Primrose Avenue
Traffic may also be stopped for several minutes at a time wile work occurs at Tyvola Road between Old Pineville Road and Seventy-seven Center Drive. Southbound I-85 Connector Ramp from Southbound Tryon Street will close on February 14th at 9:00 AM and will re-open on October 26th. A signed detour will be set up using West Sugar Creek Road and an additional detour will use City Boulevard. This work is part of the US 29/NC 49 Improvement Project. I-85, Exit 42 (US 29/NC 49) and Reagan Drive at the intersection of North Tryon Street closed on January 15th at 9:00 AM and will re-open on August 26th. Detour for I-85 Exit 42 will be set up using City Boulevard (Exit 43) to Tryon Street. Detour for Reagan Drive will be set up using Tom Hunter Road. Sandy Avenue at the intersection of North Tryon Street (US-29) will close on Monday, October 11th. Due to weather and unforeseen circumstances, this work has been delayed. It will reopen on Tuesday, February 1st between the hours of 9:00 AM and 4:00 PM. These times are approximate and may be affected by other circumstances. Southbound NC-49 (University City Boulevard) will close at the intersection of US-29 (North Tryon Street) at 9:00 AM on Monday, July 12th. The closure is scheduled for approximately 430 days (Wednesday, September 14, 2011). Expect delays in this area. This is a part of the US-29/NC-49 project. The northbound left turn lane to Stetson Drive on NC-49 has been eleminated permanently as of 6:00 AM on Saturday, June 26th. Traffic needs to make a u-turn at University POinte Drive and then proceed to turn right on Stetson Drive. This is part of the US-29/NC-49 project. Airport Drive - from just south of Wilson Aviation Drive to Stonewall Jackson Homes was closed at 9:00 AM on Monday, October 5th and remains closed. Weather and unforeseen circumstances have delayed construction. Airport Drive will re-open in late spring. Eaton Circle at Airport Drive will also be closed. Traffic can detour around this area via Billy Graham Parkway to West Boulevard to Airport Drive. Contact Angela Berry at 704-432-5259. |

Cupid's Cup 5K begins at 8:00 AM on Saturday, February 12th. The race will start on East Boulevard in front of Freedom Park and will travel on Dilworth Road West, Romany Road, Myrtle Avenue, East Park Avenue, Euclid Avenue and East Boulevard ending at CMC's Cardiac Rehab Center. Commuters have a new option for getting around the Center City and Historic South End. Charlotte Trolley begins its run at 7:00 in the morning with two cars on the tracks.

LYNX Blue Line Light Rail
Best For
The first rapid transit system for North Carolina, Charlotte’s initial phase of the light rail connects South Charlotte with Center City museums, entertainment, nightlife, sporting events, and more.
Service
Running ten miles south parallel to I-77 and South Boulevard, the 10 mile South Corridor line operates seven days a week from 5am to 1am serving 15 stations.

$1.50 each way. Children under five ride free and youth grades K-12 ride for 75¢.

Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) Bus Service
Best For
CATS currently operates more than 40 county-wide bus line routes and transports over 18 million passengers a year.
Service
Providing service options from 5:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m., plentiful and recognizable stops are located throughout the city. In addition, the Sprinter service provides a direct connection between Charlotte Douglas International Airport and Center City Charlotte. You can catch the Sprinter every 20 minutes during weekdays and every 30 minutes during nights and weekends.
Cost
$1.50 each way. $2.00 each way for Express Routes. Children under five ride free and youth grades K-12 ride for 75¢.

Gold Rush
Best For
These rubber-wheeled trolleys resemble historic streetcars and provide routes that run up and down Tryon Street and west along Trade Street through the historic Fourth Ward.
Service
The Gold Rush trolleys stop at marked bus stops every seven minutes from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Charlotte Trolley
Best For
Hop on this educational trolley to learn about Charlotte’s rise as an industrial and financial leader and to check out some of the area’s smart city planning along the way.
Service
The two-mile jaunt runs on Saturday and Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sharing the same tracks as the light rail, service includes stops from Tremont Street in South End to Ninth Street in Center City.
